Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Anderson Valley Firefighter
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following statement regarding the death of Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Bob Roland, of Anderson Valley, CA:
"California has the bravest and most dedicated firefighters in the world that selflessly put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Bob Roland, who courageously lost his life while protecting his community from the threat of fire. We are forever indebted to Bob's extraordinary and heroic service. Maria and I send our deepest condolences to Bob's family, friends and fellow firefighters during this difficult time."
Roland, 63, died July 3, while working on the Mendocino Unit Lightning Complex fires in Mendocino County, CA. He was a volunteer firefighter recruit with the Anderson Valley Community Service District Fire Department. He is survived by his wife.
In honor of Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Bob Roland, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
