Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments:

Askia Abdulmajeed, 65, of Elk Grove, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. He has served on the board since 2007.  Abdulmajeed served as a correctional chaplain for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the California Medical Facility from 2004 to 2007. Previously, he was a program consultant for the Gates Recovery Foundation from 2002 to 2004 and facility director of the Bay Area community corrections program for Volunteers of America from 2001 to 2002. Prior to that, Abdulmajeed was a special projects manager of the community corrections program for Center Point Incorporated from 1999 to 2002. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Abdulmajeed is a Democrat.

Henry Aguilar, 56, of Whittier, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. He has served on the board since April 2008. From 2006 to 2008, Aguilar was a member of the California Council on Criminal Justice and, from 2003 to June 2008, he was a member of the Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians. From 1976 to April 2008, Aguilar served as deputy sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Prior to that, he was a police officer for the Los Angeles County Office of Public Safety from 1974 to 1976 and eligibility worker for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services from 1972 to 1974. Aguilar is past national vice president of the National Latino Peace Officers Association and past president of the Association's California chapter. This position requires Senate confirmation and compensation is $111,845. Aguilar is a Republican.

Robert Cameron, 46, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. Since April 2008, he has served as a substance abuse counselor at the Sierra Conservation Center.  Cameron worked for Northern Pacific Home Loan Corporation as a real estate broker from 2007 to April 2008 and as a broker officer from 1998 to 2007. From 1995 to 1999, he served as vice president and partner at Universal Lending Corporation and, from 1987 to 1995, Cameron served as a commissioned reserve officer for the U.S. Army. Additionally, he served as the national training director for Excel Telecommunications Company from 1991 to 1995 and, he worked as a correctional officer for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 1987 to 1991. He currently serves as vice president of the Sacramento National Junior Basketball Program and is a mentor with the Guide Right Youth Mentor Program. Cameron also serves as a board member for Families United Foster Care Agency and the youth education achievement program College Connections.  This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Cameron is a Democrat.

Hedy Chang, 51, of Morgan Hill, has been appointed to the Medical Board of California. She has served on the board since 2004. Chang served as a city council member on the Morgan Hill City Council from 1996 to 2004. She serves on the Morgan Hill Medical Foundation, tasked with rebuilding city medical services by recruiting doctors and retaining a hospital site. Chang has owned H.C. Properties group since 1990 and was a plant engineer from 1979 to 1982. Prior to that, she was an industrial engineer for Firestone Tire and Rubber from 1974 to 1979 and was a research technician at the Virginia Mason Hospital in 1970. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Chang is a Republican.

Shelton Duruisseau, 64, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Medical Board of California. He has served on the board since 2004. Duruisseau has worked for the University of California, Davis Health System since 1986 and currently holds the position chief administrative and professional services officer and executive director for external affairs, positions he has held since 2004. He previously served as senior associate director and associate director for hospital and clinics for University of California, Davis Health System from 1981 to 2004. Duruisseau worked as the chief executive officer of Douglas County Hospital from 1979 to 1981. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Duruisseau is a Democrat.

Susan Melanson, 59, of Ontario, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. She has served on the board since 2006. Prior to that, Melanson served as the assistant network officer for the Children's Network of San Bernardino County from 1998 to 2006 and served as founding chair of the Child Death Review Coalition in 2006. She previously worked as a field representative for San Bernardino County Supervisor Larry Walker from 1986 to 1998. Melanson is a member of the Ontario Youth Accountability Board and former member of the San Bernardino County Gangs and Drugs Task Force. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Melanson is a Democrat.

Mary Moran, M.D., 45, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Medical Board of California.  She has served on the board since 2004.  Since 1993, Moran has operated a private practice. From 1995 to 2003, she was a member of the voluntary clinical faculty at Stanford University.  Moran received a Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Michigan.  This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.  Moran is a Republican.
