"Californians know firsthand the havoc that natural disasters can wreak, and today, our thoughts are with all Texans as they prepare for Hurricane Ike. California has sent emergency and National Guard personnel to aid in Texas' response efforts, and we stand ready to provide additional assistance as needed. Maria and I pray that the evacuees, first responders and emergency personnel are unharmed as this storm hits land."

California has deployed a total of 364 personnel in response to Hurricane Ike, including three Urban Search and Rescue Teams and eight Swift Water Rescue Teams. These personnel include Governor's Office of Emergency Services Coordinators and Fire Branch Chiefs, state and local firefighters, California National Guard personnel, search and rescue experts, swift water rescue experts and various specialized support personnel.
