Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on SR-905 Groundbreaking

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following
statement after the California Department of Transportation announced the
groundbreaking of the next phase of the State Route 905 Project. Critical to
the flow of goods between California and Mexico, this project will create an
estimated 1,400 jobs through the investment of $74.3 million in American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funding:
"When President Obama made infrastructure projects a
priority, we took immediate action in California because we know firsthand the
economic benefits of infrastructure investment - benefits that are needed more
than ever given the national economic downturn and California's budget crisis.
This project is another great example of how quickly and effectively we are
pumping Recovery Act dollars into the California economy for their intended
purpose of creating jobs, stimulating the economy and investing in our state's
future."
California will receive an estimated $2.6 billion in
Recovery Act funding for highways and local streets and $1 billion for transit
projects. Working around the clock with the federal government, California was
the first state in the nation to
obligate $1 billion of this specific funding to projects throughout
California - and did so two months ahead of deadline - helping ensure that
Recovery Act funding hits the streets to stimulate the economy as quickly and
effectively as possible.
