Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments
Devin Bartley, 54, of Oroville, has been appointed aquaculture coordinator for the Department of Fish and Game. Since 2000, he has served as senior fishery resources officer for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Bartley has worked for the FAO since 1991 and previously held the positions of officer in charge of aquaculture and inland fishery service and fishery resource officer. Prior to that, he was an assistant researcher for the University of California, Davis from 1989 to 1991 and a private consultant for Ocean Nutrition from 1988 to 1990. Bartley is a member of the American Fisheries Society, the World Aquaculture Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation $100,200. Bartley is a Democrat.
Karen Douglas, 34, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the State Energy Resources Conservation and Development Commission. Since 2005, she has served as director of the California Climate Initiative at Environmental Defense. From 2001 to 2005, Douglas served on the Planning and Conservation League in numerous positions including natural resources director, general counsel and acting executive director. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $128,109. Douglas is a Democrat.
Thomas Kendall, 62, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Veterinary Medical Board. Since 1982, he has owned Arden Animal Hospital and has co-owned the River City Cat Clinic since 2001 and Old Towne Animal Hospital since 2005. Kendall has also served as an associate clinical professor at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine since 1975. He is a member of the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues, American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and the California Veterinary Medical Association. Kendall also currently serves as the California Veterinary Medical Association liaison to the Veterinary Medical Board. This position does not require Senate confirmation and compensation is $100 per diem. Kendall is a Democrat.
Robert Kerstiens, 59, of Red Bluff, has been appointed to the Tehama District Fair Board of Directors (30th District Agricultural Association). Most recently, he was part of the management team and director at Albertson's in Chico from 1987 to 2005. From 1977 to 1987, Kerstiens was part of the management team for Better Buy Markets and, from 1976 to 1977, was assistant manager for Antelope Market. From 1974 to 1976, he was personnel, purchasing and safety security director for Minch Wholesale Meats and, from 1965 to 1974, was a clerk and part of the management team for Wentz Markets. Additionally, Kerstiens served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Kerstiens is a Republican.
Laurie Newton, 42, of Roseville, has been appointed to the Advisory Commission on Special Education. She has served on the commission since 2006. As a mother of a child with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, Newton has been actively involved in her son's special education through his individualized education program. To learn more about her son's syndrome, she attended various classes and international Rubinstein-Taybi conferences and continues to keep a network with parents and families of disabled children with which she shares her knowledge and mentoring skills. In addition to Newton's awareness and activity with special education issues, she is also involved in both of her sons' scholastic and sports activities through parent-teacher associations and booster clubs. Newton also volunteers for a number of organizations including the Joni and Friends International Disability Outreach and the Bayside Disability Ministry. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Newton is a Republican.
Edward Olson, 78, of Yountville, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. He has been a resident of the Yountville Veterans Home since 2006. From 1986 to 2005, Olson was self-employed in real estate, building contracting and home inspection. From 1968 to 1985, he was chief engineer for Information Magnetics Corporation and from 1968 to 1969 was senior engineer for Applied Magnetics Corporation. Prior to that, Olson was chief engineer for General Instrument Corporation from 1958 to 1968 and engineer for Northern American Aviation from 1955 to 1957. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Olson is registered decline-to-state.
Suzanne Perkins, 64, of Summerland, has been appointed to the Santa Barbara Fair and Exposition Board of Directors (19th District Agricultural Association). Since 1999, she has been a real estate agent for Sotheby's International. From 1992 to 1999, Perkins was a real estate agent for Fred Sands and Company and, from 1991 to 1992, was an agent for David Schmidt and Company. From 1988 to 1991, she worked for the Lifestyle Water Company in sales and reception, and from 1979 to 1988, was self-employed in horse training and sales. Prior to that, Perkins was flight service director for Pan American World Airways from 1966 to 1979. She is a member of the Santa Barbara County Parks Commission, the Santa Barbara County General Plan Advisory Committee for the Summerland Area and the California Association of Realtors. Perkins is also a United States Equestrian Federation, Incorporated licensed judge. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Perkins is a Republican.
Tonya Redamonti, 46, of Los Molinos, has been appointed to the Tehama District Fair Board of Directors (30th District Agricultural Association). Since 2004, she has been a realtor with Realty Executives, Sterling Properties. From 1998 to 2004, Redamonti was a realtor with Connections Real Estate and, from 1997 to 1998, was a realtor with Coldwell Banker. Prior to that, she worked for her family-owned farm, Redamonti Ranch, from 1995 to 1997, and was an office manager for Darwin Kremer, DDS from 1991 to 1995. Redamonti is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, California Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Tehama County Association of Realtors and the Tehama County Farm Bureau. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Redamonti is a Republican.
Lt. Col. Thomas Richards (Ret.), 60, of San Diego, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Since 2006, he has been the executive director of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Museum Historical Society and also has owned and operated Caliburnus Enterprises, a business and Internet consulting firm, since 1996. Additionally, since 1992, Richards has served as the head of the Marine Corps History and Museum Headquarters Historical Branch. From 2002 to 2003, he was the director of training operations for Surgical Shooting, Incorporated, and in 2002, was chief operating officer of 2100 Publishing Co, Incorporated. Richards served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1995, in numerous ranks including training officer, graduate instructor, military historian, commanding officer, operations officer, assistant training officer and executive officer. He is the president and first vice president of the Spirit of Fourth, Incorporated, national commander of the Legion of Valor, member of the board of directors of San Diego's Veterans Museum and Memorial Center and past chair of the San Diego County United Veterans Council. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Richards is registered decline-to-state.
