One of California's
greatest resources is our children, and our future will be determined by their
innovative ideas, talents and leadership.
It is crucial that we take on the responsibility to guide and nurture
their development. We can fulfill our
duty to ensure that every child in our state has a healthy and safe upbringing by
working together to prevent child abuse.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of reports of child
abuse are made in California,
and many more go unreported. This is a
tragedy for our children and a tragedy for our state. When children are able to grow and develop in
a caring and nurturing home environment, they are much more likely to have
brighter futures, and make a positive impact in their community. By investing in our children, we are
investing in the success of our Golden
State.
We must work collaboratively to uphold our promise of
protecting our children, and I applaud California's
law enforcement and public agencies, as well as the countless community
organizations, schools, businesses and concerned neighbors and citizens who are
joining forces in this endeavor. With
the strength of our entire state, we can better the life of every child and
family, and together continue the fight against child abuse.
NOW,
THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim April, 2008,
as "Child Abuse Prevention Month."
IN WITNESS
WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 2nd day of April 2008.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
