Every Fourth of July, Californians join with Americans
everywhere to commemorate the independence and founding of our country.
Since 1776, the United States and its people have
flourished. We are a diverse, innovative
and vibrant group, proudly continuing the legacy of the American Dream that our
founding fathers worked so hard to create.
These fearless patriots courageously declared our independence from the British
monarchy, and because of their strength, we are fortunate to enjoy the world's greatest
democracy and understand the true meaning of freedom.
This Independence Day, I encourage all those in the Golden State
to reflect on the past, present and future of our homeland, and be proud of all
we have accomplished. May we celebrate
our values of liberty and justice and pass on the enduring American ideals of
independence and service to our nation.
NOW,
THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim July 4, 2008,
as "Independence Day."

IN WITNESS
WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 23rd day
of June 2008.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California

DEBRA BOWEN
