Governor Brown to Meet with Ontario Premier in Toronto, Speak at National Press Club and North America’s Building Trades Unions Conference in Washington, D.C. Next Week

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. will travel to Toronto, Canada for events next week with Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, and then to Washington, D.C. for a moderated conversation with members of the National Press Club and remarks at the North America’s Building Trades Unions 2018 Legislative Conference, where he will be honored with the “Hats Off Award.”

Later on Monday, Governor Brown will be recognized by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario at the conclusion of Question Period and will meet privately with the Speaker of the Assembly and the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

 

This visit builds on the long-standing cooperation between California, Canada and Canadian provinces to combat climate change. Last September, Governor Brown traveled to Quebec City, where he met with the Premiers of Ontario and Quebec – both members of the Under2 Coalition – and signed an agreement officially integrating their cap-and-trade programs. The Governor last traveled to Toronto in 2015, where he gave keynote remarks at the Climate Summit of the Americas. Governor Brown met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau in San Francisco earlier this year and last year, welcomed Canada to the Under2 Coalition and joined Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change to affirm North America’s commitment to the Paris Agreement at the 2017 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23).
