California For All Kids California For All Kids is about putting children on a path to a healthier future by focusing on their minds, bodies, and environments. The First Partner’s office is raising awareness about the importance of the food we eat, the time we spend outdoors, and the relationships we have — both with the people around us and the screens in front of us — for our children’s overall health and well-being. Together, we can ensure that every California kid has access to the bounty of our beautiful state and the opportunity to realize their full potential. Learn more about each initiative below. Social Emotional Learning Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for success in school, work, and life. That’s why the First Partner joined State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and State Board of Education President Linda Darling-Hammond to launch “Advance SEL in California,” a new campaign to engage educators, school leaders, and families in a wider conversation about how to advance, elevate, and spur action on SEL best practices in California. California Farm to School The Office of the First Partner is working alongside the California Department of Food and Agriculture to develop innovative farm to school programming and expand access to healthy foods in California schools. The First Partner is focused on ensuring that California kids have access to farm fresh, nutritious meals – all while supporting California farmers in building a more sustainable future. Pathways to Parks Last year, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and the California State Parks Foundation launched Pathways to Parks, an initiative to highlight the importance of increasing access to the outdoors as a public health solution, especially for underserved youth. Together with the California State Parks Foundation and the State Parks Department, the First Partner will work to ensure that California kids can experience, learn, grow, and connect with nature – regardless of their zip code or background. Every year, kids around the state, country, and the world celebrate Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros, to uplift the joy of reading and to elevate the importance of bilingual education. As a Spanish speaker, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom has enjoyed hosting Día celebrations with First 5 California two years in a row to help get more families across the state excited about reading. Check out this year’s virtual Dia event, and stay tuned for details for our 2021 Día de los Libros programming! Breakfast After the Bell In November of 2019, The First Partner joined Stephen and Ayesha Curry on a tour of the Breakfast after the Bell programs in Oakland, one of No Kid Hungry’s programs that California is proud to support. Breakfast After the Bell is just one of many programs around the state that are doing critical work to ensure every child is fed and has what they need to succeed. California For All Kids in Action!
