Governor Brown, Former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz and Former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry to Speak at Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Event Tomorrow

1-25-2016

STANFORD - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz and former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry will participate in a discussion tomorrow at Stanford University as part of a bicoastal event organized by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists during which the 2016 time of the Doomsday Clock, which represents a metaphorical countdown to possible global catastrophe, will be unveiled.

The news conference and Doomsday Clock unveiling in Washington, D.C. will be streamed live for reporters and invited guests at Stanford University ahead of the moderated discussion with Brown, Shultz and Perry.

Last year, citing "climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals" as "extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity," the clock was moved from 5 minutes to 3 minutes to midnight. Last November, Governor Brown delivered keynote remarks at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' 6th Annual Clock Symposium in Chicago, Illinois.
