Governor Brown to Testify Today at Senate Hearing on Legislation to Reduce Air and Carbon Pollution

SACRAMENTO - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. will testify today at a Senate Environmental Quality Committee hearing at the California State Capitol on a legislative package - AB 617 by Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) and Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and AB 398 by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) - announced earlier this week with Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.

When: Today, Thursday, July 13, 2017. Hearing to begin upon call of the chair, following adjournment of the 9:00 a.m. Senate floor session.

The legislative package will launch a landmark program to measure and combat air pollution at the neighborhood level, in communities most impacted, and extend and improve the state's world-leading cap-and-trade program to ensure California continues to meet its ambitious climate change goals. It is the product of weeks of discussions between the administration and legislative leaders with Republican and Democratic legislators, environmental justice advocates, environmental groups, utilities, industry and labor representatives, economists, agricultural and business organizations, faith leaders and local government officials. Legislators are expected to vote on the legislation on Monday, July 17, 2017.
