Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:

Howard R. Krauss, 67, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the Medical Board of California, where he has served since 2013. Krauss has been director of neurosurgical ophthalmology at the Pacific Neuroscience Institute since 2014 and an ophthalmologist in private practice and clinical professor of ophthalmology and neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine since 1984. He was an assistant professor at the University of Texas from 1982 to 1984 and a systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft Company from 1972 to 1974. Krauss is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a founding member of the North American Skull Base Society. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College and a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Krauss is registered without party preference.

Ronald Lewis, 64, of Rancho Mirage, has been reappointed to the Medical Board of California, where he has served since 2013. Lewis has been a physician and surgeon at Ironwood State Prison since 2008. He was an urgent care physician at Eisenhower Immediate Care from 2003 to 2008, at Kaiser Permanente Urgent Adult Care Center, San Diego from 2003 to 2004 and at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers from 2001 to 2004. Lewis was an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego Department of Medicine from 2000 to 2016. He was director of medical affairs at Agouron Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 1997 to 2001 and at Sequus Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 1995 to 1997. Lewis was a clinical assistant professor at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1993 to 1999 and held several positions at Syntex Laboratories Inc. from 1987 to 1995, including associate director of medical services, senior associate director of medical services and senior associate director of clinical investigations. He was an emergency department physician at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center from 1985 to 1995. Lewis is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the California Respiratory Care Board. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Lewis is registered without party preference.
