TOMORROW: Governor Newsom to Tour Site of Emergency Wildfire Forest Management Project in Colfax

COLFAX — As California enters August and peak wildfire activity, Governor Gavin Newsom will return to Colfax in the Sierra Foothills tomorrow to tour the site of a fuel management project, the North Fork American River Fuel Break, which is an example of the work agencies are doing to protect communities and the environment. The Governor will also make an announcement on a significant surge in additional firefighting resources.

Previously, Governor Newsom visited this site on his first full day in office, directing CAL FIRE to recommend immediate, medium- and long-term actions to help prevent destructive wildfires. Governor Newsom also proclaimed a State of Emergency to immediately expedite forest management projects, including the North Fork American River Fuel Break.

The state budget, signed by the Governor last month, invests nearly $1 billion in emergency preparedness, response and recovery to ensure California communities, both rural and urban, can prepare for manmade and natural disasters.

When: Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Press Conference begins at 11:00 a.m. (Reporters should plan to arrive at 10:00 a.m. Pool footage and photos of the Governor touring the project will be made available to press.)

Where: Press Conference will be held at the North Fork Overlook, just east of Grandview Way on Iowa Hill Rd. There will be firefighters at the location to direct reporters to the press conference site. A map can be found here.
