Governor Newsom Statement on Trump Administration’s Attempt to Invalidate CalSavers Retirement Savings Program

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s attempt to invalidate the CalSavers Retirement Savings Program in a September 13 court filing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, in the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association et al v. California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program case:

“President Trump’s administration continues to wage war against commonsense laws and policies, and in this case, his attacks may threaten the retirement security of millions of low-income California workers. CalSavers is leveling the playing field for millions of hardworking Californians who will save for their futures for the first time in their lives. The reality is that people are living longer and about 7.5 million Californians lack access to a workplace retirement plan. Denying hardworking Californians an easy, portable way to simply save their own money is something we will continue to strongly oppose.”
