SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments:
E. Dotson Wilson, 65, of Sacramento, has been appointed commissioner of the Fair Political Practices Commission. Wilson is retired, having served as chief clerk and parliamentarian for the California Assembly from 1992 to 2019. He was deputy chief of staff to the Speaker of the California Assembly from 1988 to 1991. Wilson earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Wilson is registered without party preference.
Deborah Pilas-Treadway, 62, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief deputy executive secretary at the Native American Heritage Commission. She has served as environmental scientist at the Native American Heritage Commission since 1990. She was accounting technician at the State Lands Commission from 1979 to 1990. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $121,044. Pilas-Treadway is a Democrat.
Derick Matos, 41, of Concord, has been appointed to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Matos has been owner of Empire Barbershop since 2013. He was a licensed barber at VIP Barbershop from 2009 to 2013 and a barber apprentice from 2007 to 2009. Matos is a member of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Matos is registered without party preference.
Christie Tran, 51, of Stanton, has been appointed to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Tran has been owner and manager of Happy Nails of La Habra since 2013. She was owner and manager of Happy Nails of Costa Mesa from 2005 to 2012, manager of Happy Nails of Newport Coast from 2002 to 2005, nail technician at Happy Nails of Rancho Santa Margarita from 2001 to 2002, and a travel agent at Travel World from 1990 to 2001. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Tran is a Republican.
