Governor Newsom Statement on Porterville Fire Department Firefighters

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement today regarding the death of Porterville Fire Department Captain Ramon Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones, who remains missing after responding to a fire at a library in the City of Porterville yesterday:

“On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our sincere condolences to the Porterville Fire Department and the Porterville community for the tragic loss of two of their finest firefighters, Captain Ramon Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones. To their family, friends and colleagues, we stand with you during this difficult time, and honor Captain Figueroa and Firefighter Jones for their bravery, service and sacrifice.”

Captain Ramon Figueroa, 35, started his career with the City of Porterville in 2007. He is survived by his mother, Ana. Firefighter Patrick Jones, 25, began his career with Porterville City Fire Department in 2017.

In honor of Captain Figueroa and Firefighter Jones, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
