Governor Newsom Statement on Death of Los Angeles Police Department Detention Officer

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the death of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Senior Detention Officer Erica McAdoo:

“Jennifer and I were extremely saddened to learn of the death of Senior Detention Officer Erica McAdoo, who lost her courageous fight with COVID-19. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and her LAPD colleagues as they mourn her untimely passing.”

Officer McAdoo, 39, died late Friday from complications relating to COVID-19.

Officer McAdoo was assigned to the Custody Services Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Royston.

In honor of Officer McAdoo, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
