California mobilizes additional water tenders to Los Angeles fires
What you need to know: The state is mobilizing up to 140 water tanker trucks to support the ongoing fight against unprecedented fires in Los Angeles.
SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that California is mobilizing up to 140 2,500-gallon water tenders to assist in fighting the Eaton and Palisades fires.
Late Wednesday, some of the water trucks ordered up by CAL FIRE were already traveling to fire incident command posts. Additional trucks were expected to be deployed through the night to serve as additional water supply in the fire suppression effort. The water tanker trucks join 23 already on the ground, and a force of more than 7,500 firefighting and emergency personnel.
California is mobilizing additional water tenders to support the ongoing battle against these unprecedented Los Angeles fires. The state started tracking this weather event closely over the weekend and began prepositioning resources on Sunday. The Governor has been in constant contact with local, state and federal officials, including President Biden, to ensure an aggressive ongoing response to the fires, as well as keeping resources at the ready for any additional fires that may arise.
Earlier today, Governor Newsom secured a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to support ongoing response efforts.
